Homework
Purpose
Homework is provided with the following ends in mind:
Homework activities will vary and may be differentiated and/or interactive. This means that your child's homework may be different from his or her friend's homework.
- To develop daily home study habits.
- To provide parents with examples and information about their child’s learning.
- To provide practice that meets the needs of each child.
Homework activities will vary and may be differentiated and/or interactive. This means that your child's homework may be different from his or her friend's homework.
FrequencyLopez 4th graders are provided homework Monday-Thursday. This includes time dedicated to on ongoing reading, typing, and math goals. 40-60 minutes is a typical nightly commitment.
Unfinished HomeworkAt Lopez we understand that things don’t always go as planned. If something comes up, or if homework goes beyond a reasonable time frame, please send an email or written note explaining the situation. We can then work out a plan for when the task can be completed. If your child has consistent difficulty completing homework, we will discuss the problem as a team (i.e. parent, child, and teacher) and plan for a Win-Win solution.

Daily ReadingReading is a top priority. Research tells us that reading a great deal from a wide range of genres has a significant and measurable impact on student performance. Your 4th grader will set a goal for how many books he or she plans to read this year. Reading may be done independently or aloud to a friend or family member. For adequate growth, I suggest a minimum of 30 minutes daily reading including weekends.
